Escaping a belay to leader, basic technical rescue skills. Cool uses of a Purcell Prussic for climber safety and self rescue. Be prepared and learn these important skills. Instructors: Jon Cobb & TBD

Introduction to ice climbing gear, crampon fundamentals, ice tool swing, where to swing the tool/reading ice, removing tools, testing placement, planning the line, the climbing “flow,” resting, pulling bulges, down-climbing. Instructors: Joe McLaughlin & Sam Elias (BDEL/Scarpa PRO)

Skill Builder #4
Self locking plaquettes- belaying a second. New belay devices allow belaying directly off the anchor, but there are tricks and important consequences to learn. Instructors: Dave Lucey & Brian Skean

First Aid for the fallen climber. Learn the common injuries seen in climbing falls and learn the best ways to treat and evacuate your partner. (WFR cert. recommended.) Instructors: Dave Shuman & Roger Sparks

Multi pitch rope management and anchors. Refine your anchor transition skills and shave valuable time off your long ascents. Become dialed on stacking twin ropes. Instructors: Bill Billmeier & Marco Carter

Ice v-threading, new developments, data and tricks. Rapping off v-threads is an important skill that all ice climbers should master. Learn the new data that changes everything! Instructors: Doug Jewel & TBD

Skill Builder #8
The Junior Ice skill builder is the best place for kids to don crampons for the first time. This is a fun morning out on the ice especially for kids! Ages 8 to 14. (Parents, please plan on attending too) Instructors: Heather Szundy & TBD

Skill Builder #9
Avalanche rescue training focusing on beacon technology and new shoveling techniques. Beacons and a Beacon Park will be available for students. All proceeds from this clinic will go towards Alaska Avalanche School. Instructors: Tucker Chenoweth & TBD

Skill Builder #10
Snowpack analysis for climbers. Do you have an educated opinion on what that hang fire is gonna do while you are climbing under it? All proceeds from this clinic will go towards Friends of the Chugach Forecasting center. Instructor: Lisa Portune

Full Day Clinics: $80 Sunday March 7th (9am-5pm)

Beginner Ice
Introduction to ice climbing gear, crampon fundamentals, ice tool swing, where to swing the tool/reading ice, removing tools, testing placement, planning the line, the climbing “flow,” resting, pulling bulges, down-climbing. Also will cover belaying, lowering and anchors. No prior experience required. Demo and Rental gear is available. Instructors: Matt Szundy & TBD

Intermediate Ice Climbing
For an experienced ice climber or those who have attended the Mountaineering Club of Alaska Ice Climbing Festival. Learn advanced movement skills to transition to steep terrain and how to follow efficiently. Prior ice climbing experience required or extensive rock climbing experience. Instructors: Dave Lucey & TBD

Mixed Climbing
Refine your current ice techniques while exploring movement on the rock, dry tooling techniques, pro and mixed climbing. Must be able to climb WI4. No leashes allowed. Instructors: Harry Hunt & Sam Elias (BDEL/Scarpa PRO)

Introduction to Lead Climbing
Learning to lead is the most challenging step in ice climbing. Learn leading strategies, screw placement, advanced protection systems, rope management techniques and advanced anchor systems. We will also address the psychological aspects of leading. Participants must be comfortable climbing WI4. Instructors: Joe Butler & TBD

Women's Ice Climbing Clinic
Women's clinic covers a diverse array of techniques, approaches and styles from advanced beginner to advanced, depending on the needs of the attendees. Instructors: Tanya Leinicke & Sherrie Soltis

Advanced Climbing
Improve your steep terrain technique, systems management and anchor building efficiency. Participants must be comfortable climbing WI4. Instructors: Bill Billmeier & Jon Cobb

*Clinic participants should come dressed for the cold weather and are required to bring their own harness, boots, and helmet. There will be a limited supply of demo gear available for checkout at the Basecamp Tent, March 6th and 7th. Call AMH or Ascending Path for other gear rental needs.
