Alaska Ice Climbing Festival LATEST NEWS!!

Save the dates, the 3rd annual Ice Fest will be held March 5th & 6th, 2011.

Last years 2nd annual Fest was a huge success. Although the temperatures just days before the festival were in the 40's the weather cooled off and the ice stayed intact. The 2010 AK Ice Fest was held in Hunter Creek, Alaska just 45 minutes from Anchorage, Alaska. Over 100 participants were involved !!!

The 2010 Climbing Competition was held Saturday, March 6th in Hunter Creek. Sixteen competitors climbed the mixed rock and ice route set by local climber and AAC President - Alaska Chapter, Harry Hunt.

Competition results:

1st place Jay Rowe (defending champion)
2nd place Paul Barendregt
3rd place Leo Claunan

The 1st place winner was crowned with a crown of used crampon points, ice screws and picks welded together by local climber and artist Dean Carman. The crown will be housed at Alaska Mountaineering & Hiking with a plaque recognizing the climbing competition winner.

Thank you to all of our sponsors and the volunteers that made this year so successful.
